Power Sterring Pump on 95 Accord
 

I notice that there is a little black grime accumulating around the PS pump,
so I assume it has a small leak. Not sure if its a hose or not, but I
suspect the shaft seal. Its not enough to noticeably lower the reservoir
level, but it might be getting worse.

Any recommendations on:

1) Rebuild using a seal kit?
2) Replacement? (New, OEM, Rebuilt?)

that would be a replacement but I would just keep an eye on it.

I agree with Captain Krunch--
I just wanted to add that if you need to replace it, your best option is
to buy a used PS pump at the local junk yard. Many of the auto junk yard
dealers are now on a special computer network and can get you the part you
need even if they don't have a wrecked 95 Accord on their lot.

I ordered a re-build kit the other day for my 91 Civic's PS pump, as I suspect a
leak due to oil beneath it (could be valve cover seals, though). If the PS pump
is leaking, it's very slow as the PS fluid reservoir level seems to be holding
fine. The kit is about $15 from Autozone, special order.

Googling suggested a rebuild might be worth a try. Krunch and Jason may know
better, of course.

Pep Boys sells rebuilt OEM PS pumps for under $200. I saw several on Ebay
recently (at least one would have worked on my Civic), too. They're under $100
or $50, IIRC.

If push comes to shove, I'm probably going with an OEM rebuild from Pep Boys or
maybe Autozone.

The front shaft seal on some of Honda's power steering pumps can be
replaced. I know that this was true for their earlier models '90-93
(http://tinyurl.com/259l2) however it looks like they redesigned the pump
beginning in '94 http://tinyurl.com/37s4t. Take a rag and clean the pump
off, with the motor off of course, and see if you can better identify the
source of the leak.

sold the car, and gave a bottle of P.S. fluid to the buyer! bob
