problem with a 2003 honda (crankshaft position sensor)
 

hi - i have an problem with my 2003 honda civic lx - it stalls
intermittently. the first time it stalled
the problem triggered the MIL (DTC: p0336 crankshaft position sensor
range
performance). i tapped in
with a DSO and checked the CKP sensor and discovered that there is an
inconsistency with the CKP
sensor frequency from time to time. the frequency about 140hz most of
the
time but goes up to 400hz
once in a while. the trace has to be square wave all the time but it's
not. i'm state of california certified auto technician.

i took it to the honda dealership the first time when it happened
(mileage 4500) and first they said
the car is functioning normally and that the all PID data looks
normal -
then when i insisted for them to
look again they said said they found there was a noise at CKP
which they didn't notice before and they
would look at it again i left the car at the dealership and after a
few days i took the car back i discovered all they did was to replace
the CKP sensor.

there were no problems with the car for the first few weeks but then
it
stalled again - i ignored it the first few times it but it kept
happening. so checked the CKP with a DSO again justout of curiosity
and I
discovered the same inconsistency i found when i looked at it first
(described above). i recorded the data
on the DSO and took it back to the service again last week and showed
them
what i found out (mileage: 5800 - no MIL/check engine light this time)
- they said they would look at it. now after a few
days they again say all PID data looks normal and that they drove it
numerous times and claim the car has no problems.

i know the problem is still there but i am really not sure what to do.
what
do you recommend?

You could always take it back again, and use the lemon law to get it
replaced if they don't want to fix it right.
