Q&A on allignment and new Yoko as430 '93 civic Si

just had NTB install a 4-set of Yoko AS430 (= Yoko Avid H4S ) and an
alignment on '93 civic Si

the tires replaced a set of "Dunlop A2 Sport". Yokos feel softer in the
turns than the A2s and no squeal like on the A2s, they do stick and are
comfortable and quiet on highway and rain performance seems a little better
so i like then for that but the A2s definatle seemed sportier.

Any one else have similar experience with tire change (yoko) ?

Alignment was supposedly off (toe in was out of factory spec -- more on left
than right) i believe this , the steering was stiff and pulling left and
more when brakes applied so they adjusted to almost exact middle of of
factory spec range but i noticed something odd when driving... the steering
is very sensitive and drifts all over (very slightly) so constant slight
compensation seems required to keep straight track, wind does not have the
same affect as it did, if that info helps

Any ideas on what alignment should be to get a better/stiffer/less sensitive
steering track ?

thanks for any usefull replies
rob

you need to state vehicle mileage. wandering can be a symptom of wear
in a suspension joint. once you've determined that /not/ to be the
problem find an alignment shop that knows what they're doing on the
4-wheel honda alignment - in my experience, few do and few are able to
get it right first time. get it rechecked.

mileage is 197K and forgot to mention that NTB supposedly checked for
suspension problems as part of the alignment service as they offer repair
services. however i do not really trust those giant auto service places
much anymore, i may just get the honda dealer to check alignment but i have
experienced problems with dealers too.

i really should have ordered the tirerack.com tires then had the tires put
on at one of their trusted service affiliates, NTB was there, i finally had
the time... guess thats the price of convenience these days

thanks

Jim needs to cite his sources, if he has any, on four-wheel alignment. Mine
say only the front is likely to be adjustable on these early 1990s Civics,
and then IIRC only toe.

er, how about section 18.5 of the service manual, "rear toe
inspection/adjustment"? you're a prize sometimes elle.
