Question about Mileage and Civic Hybrid

I've got a Civic Hybrid with about 3,000 miles. It's only getting
around 39 or 40mpg. The salesman told me it would get significantly
better mileage after a 5,000 mile breakin. Was he lying just to sell
the car, or should I expect better mileage?
Thanks,
- Jeff

According to www.fueleconomy.gov , you can expect about 42mpg combined.

Go here:
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm
Navigate to your model.

I've found their numbers to be fairly close to real-world. Maybe even a bit
on the low side.

Dude, my 11K mile Prius gets 45mpg with me driving it like a normal car
around town, with mixed street/freeway use and the climate control set
to where I'm comfortable.

I've gotten up to 53mpg on the highway, doing 70+mph.

If you're getting 40mpg in a Civic hybrid around town, that's probably
realistic.

Re: Question about Mileage and Civic Hybrid

Actually, the 2008 was just posted to Honda's web site, the "NEW" EPA rating
is for 40/45 hybrid & 25/?? gas....so you are doing just about right, follow
the link I gave you below & try some of the high mileage driving tips & see
if you can't improve a bit... I do understand it takes a while for these
cars to break in, I have heard 3,000-7,000 miles but if you look at the
hypermilers, most of their driving is on the freeway, at reduced speed, with
the a/c off, drafting big rigs.....sorry, 55 mpg isn't worth that to me, my
40-45 is just fine for now,
