rattling muffler
Just bought a Honda with an after market sports muffler. Although whenever I
accelerate usually the muffler makes this weird rattling noise as well as its usual sports muffler noise. Rattling noise was sort of getting a bit annoying so I took it to a muffler place to get it checked. Suprisingly the muffler guy said nothing was wrong with it, and that this is normal for all sports mufflers, "they all make that noise", he claimed. He said the only way I could get rid of it was to put a standard muffler back on. I found this hard to beleive, I know how a sports muffler sounds like but not all of them rattle like this when acelerating. Any other suggestions? Thanks |
Re: rattling muffler
WTF that guy is stupid...
It shouldn't be rattling... Go under the car and check for things that it could be vibrating against. Is it welded on or just bolted on, if it's bolted, check and see if that's what is rattling. Personally, I only go to performance shops for work, sometimes it's a bit pricier, but the people there are friendly and want to help you. Re: rattling muffler
You should take your car immediately to a dealer. They are the only ones who
are experienced enough to be able to deal with this problem. Not all dealers want to deal with all the niggles, and in this case, can you tell me what the 7th and 8th words are in the posters query? "AFTER MARKET. A Honda dealer would have little to no experiance with these. Finally, Dealers tend to be a bit jack of all trades, whereas theres a lot of people on here who've had direct experiane of these problems before. I KNOW that if you had problems with A-series engines (as fitted to old mini's, and other cars) staying in their mountings, especailly after adding some more power to it, I know a LOT more than any MG dealer (since the Mg metro turbo was the only a-series engine car with a turbo on it as standard).
