I get 30 mpg overall in my 2003 CRV (Canadian gallons). I was told by
the dealer that the mileage would increase after the first 8,000 km due
to computer chip settings.

Huh? How can mileage improve because of a chip setting? Does the chip
change something (timing?) after 8k?
