Re: Import owners are to blame for the recession
I agree, this Taurus was crap stuff we hear in foreign car NGs, is plain old
BS from people who never owed one. When I owned my fleet service business we serviced literally thousand of Taurus' that were run up to 300,000 miles trouble free. We provide warranty coverage and serviced about every brand you can name and there was no significant difference between domestics and imports when it came to longevity. Every manufacturer is building good quality, long lasting vehicles today, if they are given the proper preventive maintenance. The only real difference is style and price, period In addition the 2009 Taurus costs thousands less to drive home from the dealship than a 2009 Camry. The Taurus it is a full size car like the Avalon, not a mid size car like the Camry "C. E. Yeah right. The 80's and 90's Taurus' had serious transmission problem. Look into the history of the AX4S and get back to me. Everyone I knew with a Taurus had tranny problems around 70K miles. The proof is in the pudding as Ford fixed many of these post warranty due to the wide problems. The car has a crappy reputation. >We provide warranty coverage and serviced about every brand you can name and >there was no significant difference between domestics and imports when it >came to longevity. It's true that no manufacturer is without defects and issues, but there are big differences in quality. >In addition the 2009 Taurus costs thousands less to drive home from the >dealship than a 2009 Camry. The Taurus it is a full size car like the >Avalon, not a mid size car like the Camry But it's not comparable to the Avalon except in size. You're still stuck in that American car buying theme of the past "if it's bigger it must be better and worth more". |

The Taurus it is a full size car like the > Avalon, not a mid size car like the Camry Years ago we had a 88 Taurus wagon and while the quality today may be comparable to Toyota or Honda, our experience back then indicated otherwise when compared to Civic we had and a prior ownership of a Volvo 240 wagon. Within two years of ownership and less than 25k miles, the paint deteriorated, the shocks had to be replaced, the water pump went out, the driver's side seat sagged (and neither my wife or I are heavyweights ). We sold it at a loss and bought a Toyota Previa. The Toyota was bulletproof and a real quality vehicle and far superior in every way to the Taurus. I don't gamble when I buy a car today and stick with what has worked well over the years -- Honda or Toyota. > > "C. E. My father and Sister had had several Tauruses, from the '80s and '90's, and we've had Volvos and Camrys. Two of the Tauruses were very good cars (and one a bit of a lemon), but they were heavy, the fuel economy with that V-6 was disappointing to a Camry four owner, and most of them were developing problems by 100k miles. One of my father's cars did rack up a couple hundred thousand miles with no major problems, but both of my Sister's cars were having trouble before 100k. It seemed like a good enough car to get if you got a new car every 3 years, but not in the same league as the Japanese sedans. I don't know about the post-2000 models. |
