Re: K&N filter for my civic? please help!
Ok, thanks for your help guys! (not to sure what that stuff about
500somthing on a 200 was all about?)
Will probably still get a 1.6 vtec 57i kit at some point.
I notice some people are saying that these induction kits are a gimmick, yet
i meet others who say it does help a fair bit (quicker throttle response
etc). I guess it depends on the car? a civic vti may not be effected, but a
1.5ils might find an induction kit a benefit or vice versa?
I figured that my civic is plenty fast enough for me, but thought an
induction kit might be a good starting point to learn about cars and maybe
make it a bit more personalised.

Your "induction kit" should include a lot more than just a replacement air
filter.You should also have some smooth-wall piping,some couplers(urethane
or silicone rubber),hose clamps,and directions on what to remove and how
the plumbing goes.
I had to guess what went where with my $60 Bomz cold air induction
'kit',and what intake plumbing to remove,and how to access it for removal.
Keep in mind a true CAI will give better performance than a short ram
setup,unless you drive around with no hood,or install a hood scoop.

Your "induction kit" should include a lot more than just a replacement air

Oh wow. Cool---I'm not the only one who bought a BOMZ short-ram intake. I
got one about 2months ago for my '92 Teg. I was wondering also about
reprogramming the ECU. I bought a reprogrammed ECU off EBay(I know--I got
scammed, right?), & had that installed (not by me) beforeI installed the
intake. After that, I installed the intake myself & did what the BOMZ
instructions said about letting the ECU "re-learn" the new intake setup. I
pulled the negative cable off the battery for 10 minutes. My car sounds so
much better with that new intake. Not bad for $30. The chip was $15. The
chip seems to have made my car more touchy while in 1st, ~ 5-10 MPH, for
whatever reason, though. Oh well. I'm not trying to win any trophies or
anything. Just having fun here.

Mine's not the short ram,it's the longer cold air induction,has a lot more
plumbing.I had to remove the resonator chamber,the air filter plenum,and
some piping.The filter is in the right front fender,low,behind the
headlights.

I really didn't care about the 'sound'.I wanted more power,and got a really
nice increase with the CAI.Quite a noticeable increase in low end,too.
At least you got instructions with your kit,mine had none.But it wasn't
that hard to figure out.
Now if you like to tinker,build a box around your short ram's filter,with a
4" dryer flexible vent pipe going around to in front of the radiator.
Having COLD air makes a BIG difference in power.Under-hood air is much
hotter than what you get from in front of the grille.

Sorry to hear about yor ECU. Yeah, I didn't really care about the sound
necessarily myself--just wanted some extra power, too, but I got the extra
power and it sounds better (than it did). I know about cold-air. I was going
to do that, but I'm not very technical mechanically speaking, & wanted to do
this on my own, & I just got the short-ram. I was going to go cold-air, but
I'm a student & am out of work (on unemployment) due to medical problems, so
money doesn't grow on trees for me. I wanted something cheap. $30 isn't bad
for an intake upgrade. Did you get an air-bypass valve for your cold-air
intake? Again--I'm not trying to win any trophies here. Just having fun, &
trying to learn more about my Teg. I'm now waiting on an OBX cat-back
exhaust Type-H kit. I found that for ~$250. It's stainless steel/street
legal. My muffler is going bad. It's basically staock. I was so close to
saying f'-it & buy a G'Reddy cat-back for $500. I know I said I'm not rich,
but I want something good for my exhaust, & found the OBX kit for half of
G'Reddy's kit. Next is prolly headers after exhaust. Thanx for responding to
my BS.

No.And I live in central Florida,where rain is an everyday thing for
several months.I just don't drive through unknown puddles.Been two years
now,no problems yet.

Really? Ebay has 'em cheap, around $15 or so. (for 2"-3" pipes). Forida?
Rain? You can just put a nice Psilocybin mushroom in the pipe, & that works
great. If that doesn't work for you, then you can always send me the
mushrooms (spore syringe, only, of course. I wouldn't want to break the
law).
