all torque wrenches to be precise, need to be calibrated every so often. If
you are building an engine you should torque with a torque wrench, a drain
plug does not need to be torqued with a wrench. If you do not have your
wrench calibrated every so often like the airlines do, then you may as well
not use it. Torque values in the manual are fine for the factory, but if
you change oil every two months and use their high values you will stress
your pan threads over time. Use a new crush washer and snug the plug, then
give a slight pull on the wrench, check for leaks. Most mechanics use impact
wrenches for everything they do, how many torque wrenches do you see at the
dealership? Tightening the engine head is a good use for torque wrenches,
tightening exhaust clamps on a tail pipe extension is not a good use for a
torque wrench. The airforce calibrates their high dollar wrenches about once
a month. A cheap torque wrench is worse than no torque wrench if not
calibrated.
