I second what both of the other posters said. However, it can be beyond a
mere shimmy. My Civic would shake rather severely braking at speed, and the
disc was barely outside of tolerance. More important than how it felt
however, is that due to the warped disc, I couldn't lay into the brakes the
same way. Normally it was okay, but in an emergency I would have been
screwed.

I see, I see. Forgive me for my utter ignorance, but does "shimmy"
refer to car or wheel shaking/vibrating?

As well, if you have plenty of brake pads left and the car's less than
a year old, does squeaking from the brakes indicate a warped
disk/rotor? If not, what could be causing this squeaking coming from
the brakes? It happens even if the car's not "cold", ie, it's been
running for a while. The noise will come on when braking at low
speeds. Thanks.

Yes

Squeaking of pads means that they are either worn down or not siting right
in the caliper. Temp doesn't really matter. It can make pads squeal if
it's warped

FYI, the make noise when worn down, because of little metal tab that is
sitting on the pad, that starts to scrape when the pad gets too thin

I wouldn't say positioned, as they have play in the caliper themselves.
They can move...I'm not sure what type of clips your brakes have to keep
them in thier expanded postition IE:, when you don't have your foot on the
brake.

Some cars, like my Protege, have springs that attach to the top of the
pads, and keep them out, away from the rotor. My del Sol and Tercel
require that blue adhesive, to keep them in place.

But I wouldn't worry too much about the squeaking. If it does bother you
that much, take off the wheel and look right at it. If they don't lok
parallel, then they just float a little back and forth in the caliper.
