Re: Where to Obtain NEW Honda Engines
No, I'm not restoring a Civic. I'm looking for a Honda engine to use in a
new Formula car series for road racing in Ontario. Right now the choices are Formula Vee (air-cooled 1600-cc engines from 1974 Super Beetles), or Formula Ford (1600-cc inline four Ford Cortina engine). The advantage of the air-cooled VW engines is that there are gobs of suppliers and parts for these powerplants, and they're relatively cheap. You can build a new 1600-cc aircooled race engine for about $5,000. They are, however, very old technology. Formula Ford race engines are expensive ($10,000). A Formula race series built around a fuel-injected 1.6-litre Honda would modernize the cars and bring some more power than the 1600 VW. The problem is finding a supplier for short block 1.6-litre Hondas. Purchasing from a Honda dealer, or getting re-built stuff may not be the best idea. Well, why not look in the (Toronto?) Yellow Pages for Honda Specialists and engine rebuilders. I would guess you are restoring your Civic. Any reputable builder (given enough time and money) can source an engine or engines, and do a complete rebuild, with warranty. Stewart DIBBS, Ottawa |

um....formula vee uses the 1300cc motor right now.

Re: Where to Obtain NEW Honda Engines
Because a Formula car will wipe the track with a Civic, turbo or not. They
weigh next to nothing and can pull over a G (laterally) in corners. They are a purpose-built race car. Go spend a weekend at Mosport (which I'm sure is where "John Smith" is talking about) and watch a few races...the Civics have their own little race amongst themselves, at the back of the pack, while the rest of the track laps them a few times.
