Remote Keyless Entry Not Working
 

I have a 1998 Honda Civic EX 4-door. I have 188,400 miles or so. I've had
the car 9 years, 4 months.

My keyless entry is not working. I tried changing the battery (CR2025),
but the thing still does not work. Do I have to have the thing
reprogrammed, or do I need a new keyless entry system?

Try the other remote. That will confirm if the car is OK. The led on the
remote confirms whether the little battery is OK. Did this suddenly
happen, or are you getting the car ready to sell?

Try the other remote. That will confirm if the car is OK. The led on the
remote confirms whether the little battery is OK. Did this suddenly
happen, or are you getting the car ready to sell?

If the battery died, then it will need to be reprogrammed. Look in the
owner's manual, or do a Google search on something like '98 civic
reprogram' or something like that. You may have to have the dealer do
it, as a lot of the '90's Japanese cars had dealer-installed keyless
entry systems (i.e., they didn't come that way from the factory). My
son's '99 Subaru Legacy had that problem, and the local dealer could
not help as it was a different brand than they installed. Became a
moot point when my son wrecked the car. ;-)

If the battery died, then it will need to be reprogrammed. Look in the
owner's manual, or do a Google search on something like '98 civic
reprogram' or something like that. You may have to have the dealer do

relationship with them. Each key fob has a digital 'signature'. The car
remembers the signatures of up to three fobs. If the fob would loose
it's signature each time the battery got changed, we'd be hearing a LOT
MORE questions about how to program them. Warlock needs to determine
that the fobs are all working by the LED, and then reprogram the fobs to
the car if they prove to be OK. The instructions are all over the Web.

That is the same problem I am going through with my late wife's 1997
Civic. The keyless works when it wants to. Although it had an alarm
added to it in '97, I think the Honda Dealer installed unit still uses
the factory radio for keyless entry.

Well, I believe I traced my problem down to the factory radio that is
FUBAR doing what it wants when it wants. The volume control works "if"
it wants to and the electronic tuning drifts. Example: If I am
listening to 94.5 FM, the station changes to 94.7 while driving with no
interaction from me.

Before my wife died, the CD changer quit working, so I replaced it with
another Alpine, only to find that the new changer did the same thing as
the old one (doh). My CD results are anything from playing fine, to
NOTHING at all, regardless of the type of cd, slot number, etc.

I hate to replace the radio and lose the alarm, but I may try to find a
deal locally on both, even though I can install the dang radio. I just
hate messing around with alarms, even though I can do it too! I am not
the young man that I once was and twisting into those odd positions for
an alarm install play hell on my back (lol).

Did your CD ever 'mute' for about two seconds, several times per song?
The one in my Odyssey does that and it's very weird. It doesn't pause,
just mute. Doesn't matter if warm or cold, bumpy road, nothing.

Did your CD ever 'mute' for about two seconds, several times per song?
The one in my Odyssey does that and it's very weird. It doesn't pause,
just mute. Doesn't matter if warm or cold, bumpy road, nothing.

Yep, that is what I would describe it as. Not quite skipping per say,
but, more or less a muting type of issue. Then again, what more should
I expect from a 10 year old electronic device or more specifically, the
head unit?

Yep, that is what I would describe it as. Not quite skipping per say,
but, more or less a muting type of issue. Then again, what more should
I expect from a 10 year old electronic device or more specifically, the
head unit?
