Replacing the Ignition switch on a 95 civic

How do I remove the broken Ignition switch on my daughters 95 civic
(it was stolen last month and recovered a week ago )

it looks like I have to remove the steering wheel
to drill out the shear bolts that hold it in place
Is there any chance of my accidentally deploying the air bag
when I remove the steering wheel?

Any thoughts would be helpful

The service manual has special instructions regarding the airbags.

1. Turn off ignition.
2. Disconnect battery negative terminal.
3. Disconnect battery positive terminal.
4. Wait at least three minutes before proceeding.
5. Use the red short connector if you disconnect either air bag.

Not sure if you really need to remove the steering wheel though. The
procedure at http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/civicmanual/pdf/23-a68.pdf
shows the work being done with the steering wheel in place.

to drill out the shear bolts
(the ignition was Trashed by the Tire Thief's)

Uh,if the thieves went after the ignition switch, they were NOT just after
the tires. Maybe they were joyriders.

For tires, they just put blocks under the car,let the air out of the
tires,unbolt them,and then leave.
Why risk getting caught stealing the entire car for just the tires?

You need an alarm on any and every car these days, unfortunately.
