Short Accord warranty?

Hi all,

Why does the Accord only carry a warranty of 36k or 3 years and while most
of it's competitors have 50k or 5 years for VW Jetta even the Mitusbishi
Galant has a 7 year 100k warranty?

Yet the Honda Accord made the 10 top vehicles this year agin... any ideas?

It isn't difficult to understand why Hyundai needs to offer a 10-year,
100,000 mile warranty to induce people to by their cars: they have a poor
reliability record. Honda, on the other hand, has a great reliability
record, so it doesn't need to offer a long warranty. People have confidence
in the quality of the car. VWs and Mitsubishis are somewhere in between
Honda and Hyundai is perceived quality, so their warranties reflect that.

The possibilities are simply mind boggling. Perhaps the warranties are not
comparable; one may be a "bumper to bumper", while the other may be a power
train only; perhaps honoring the warranties is performed at different
levels; and perhaps length of warranty is not a major consideration in
determining the top 10 vehicles of the year (for whatever value that
appellation carries)....

You just bought it in the wrong country. We have a 3 year/62,000 mile
warranty on our Accords.

Re: Short Accord warranty?

If vehicle manufacturers can sell their vehicles "as is" and still get the
same demand, they would do it because less monkeys on their back if
something goes wrong (which does on occasion no matter who the manufacturer
is).

I believe that Honda felt that they have built up a reputation then passed
on the extra peace of mind profit to the dealership in a form of "extended
warranty"

It cannot be just perceived reliability alone:

Toyota has a 3 years / 36,000 miles basic and 5 years / 6,0000 miles on
power train (engine tranny, fwd, rwd, seatbelts, airbags)

Lexus 4 years / 50,000 miles basic and 6 years and 70,000 miles on power
train.

Acura 4 years / 50,000 miles basic and power train
