sound when change gear 1-2
I drive honda civic sedan 2001 (106,000 km). It is manual gear
(stick). these days i hear a strange noise only when i change the gear from 1 to 2 and the sound like dropping a metal dish in the floor?? it is hard to explain the sound but i guess dropping a metal dish and hear the echo of that .. it is the same sound i hear?? what could case this probelm?? I am going to do Service D for my honda (according to Honda manual) do you think they should test that problem (i have feeling that this problem is grear or clech problem) Thanks alot. |
Re: sound when change gear 1-2
There is only a couple of hopes of a simple and easy fix - ensuring the
lubricant in the gearbox is up to the proper level (not a typical check but they can do it quickly and inexpensively while the car is in the shop), and checking out the gearshift linkage. If you are hearing a sharp "clang" (which seems to be what you are describing) it must be coming from outside the gearbox... like the shift linkage. Sounds from inside the gearbox will be muffled; clunks, grinding, heavy bangs.... Does it happen only at a certain RPM? You may have a loose heat shield on the exhaust manifold or catalytic converter. That's the only thing I can think of that would make a sound like that. It may be a combination of things during the time you're shifting to 2nd that is just right to cause it to resonate. |

You can weld them back, but it works ok to put a screw in to stop the rattle. |
