I can't speak for where you live, but where I live, the cops are just itching to write tickets and so forth, it gives them revenue and brownie points with the boss. I've even seen cars pulled over for running blue lights instead of normal headlights ( certainly not HID, because those cost a dang fortune, and are primarily for off-road use ). Itching to yank you over and write you up for just about anything you can think of. That's probably why it is so QUIET around here. Peaceful. Tranquil. I don't believe the PD is a bunch of meanies out to ruin anybody's day, but they -have- improved the quality of life around here by keeping non roadworthy vehicles off the streets, along with the drivers that are behind the wheel of them. Regulations vary from state to state, county to county, so do check with your own PD before making any assumptions about anything. They are more than happy to let you know what is OK and what isn't. That's a legitimate safety issue, and I'm glad to hear it. Thing that gets me, though, is that all these cars have front fog lights, but (in the US anyway) no REAR ones. At least those don't tend to be left on, or used all the damned time. Where people get the idea that they need front fog lights on any time it gets dark is a mystery though, under 100M/yards visability put them on, yes, but not before. |

I didn't know you lived in new jersey! I got a ticket a couple years ago....had a daytime running light burned out on a bright sunny day. Local cop did a 180 in the middle of the road, pulled me over and wrote a ticket for "improperly maintained vehicle". The judge tried to fine $120 but I read off the state statute limitation of $40 and he was forced to agree. Still, it's nice not seeing any 'improper' vehicles on the road. I go over to Pennsylvania and I see stuff on the road straight out of Mad Max. Dan |

The towing fee is $180, the daily storage fee is $75. If you're poor like me, you can't come up with that kind of cash on a moment's notice, and you LOSE you vehicle. All perfectly legal according to Mayor Buttface. BTW, I am disheartened that you had to recite to your judge The Law as it pertained to your case, chapter and verse regarding the limitation of punitive damages for the *crime* you committed. I'm thinking he would have put you down for $40 even though he fined you $120, and would have pocketed the difference. The real crooks are the buggers wearing the robes. Lg |
