Starting problem, 89 SE-i
89 Accord SE-i 5sp 4dr 140,000 miles. Engine starts with the symptoms
of a weak battery, or a bad starter. Turns over slowly a few times, then speeds up to normal, then very slowly, then runs. Tach needle jumps to around two grand and back to 500 as it is trying to start. Engine never fails to start, and seems to run fine after it finally starts. Fast idle is good, but seems to idle too slow after warm. Problem came on slowly. Would only do it when warm, but now does it every time it is tried to start. So far I have: 1. Replaced the starter. 2. Replaced the distributor with one from salvage yard. 3. Checked the timing belt for proper position. 4. Plugs, wires and cap are new. 5. Replaced the E.C.U. with one from salvage yard. 6 Checked the resistance on the coil and the injector resistor. 7. Checked all vacuum and electrical connections. The symptom goes away if the coil is unplugged, or if the injector fuse is pulled. (though the car won't start) I have the Honda shop manual and I am running out of ideas to try next. I'd be very grateful if there is anyone out there with any good ideas. bob |

Re: Starting problem, 89 SE-i
Nutz is right! I'm about ready to give it away. Thank you for the tip.
I'll get right on it tomorow. Hope for the best! bob JETman wrote: > > Bad ground(s) can drive a sane person nutz and a fifteen year old car is > ripe for such prolems... > > -- > Regards, > > JT (Residing in Austin, Texas) > > Just Tooling Down The Internet Superhighway With my G4....... |
