Super Charger or Turbor Charger
 

I've noticed that there seems to be super chargers for the Honda Civic SI,
but what about a plain jane civic.

I have a 2005 Honda Civic Reverb (canadian model) Its the 1.5 litre, 115hp,
non-vetch engine. Is there a super charger or turbo charger out there for
my car?

Superchargers are more compact than a turbochargers so are usually easier
to install. However, since it draws power more the engine via a belt it is
less effective than a Turbocharger. A Turbocharger will provide you with
more power than a supercharger.

Superchargers are more compact than a turbochargers so are usually easier
to install. However, since it draws power more the engine via a belt it is
less effective than a Turbocharger. A Turbocharger will provide you with
more power than a supercharger.

kinda, but you need to be more specific. turbos are "free" because they
run on waste energy from the exhaust. but they have an expense, because
they increase back pressure reducing the benefits of valve timing
crossover so the engine runs less efficiently. and lag is a serious
issue, as is management, cooling, lube, etc. superchargers have little
or no management issues, no lag, etc.

bottom line though, anyone dropping a few $k on stuff like this for a
low end motor has got to be logically challenged. do it properly & put
in a real, high revving, ported, blueprinted motor and a real
transmission/suspension that can keep what drive you do have on the
ground. above all, install a good set of brakes that will stop you from
wrapping yourself around a tree.

Great points. It's my opinion that turbochargers, superchargers and
special braking systems should only be installed on cars that you plan to
race or place in shows. The typical person that does NOT do these things
should not waste their money on the these sorts of things.

If you want these kinds of things, order them with the car and get a
warranty. Otherwise, you're probably throwing good money after bad,
and looking for lots of problems.

If you want these kinds of things, order them with the car and get a
warranty. Otherwise, you're probably throwing good money after bad,
and looking for lots of problems.
