Timing Belts life?
OK folks this question is for all the Honda Accord 4 banger "OWNERS"
This is NOT FOR the garage mechanics of the world!!!! I know you have a ton of advice on how often it should changed - BUT how mant miles are they in service for - of course the bottom line is. "GOT BALLS" Yes It is a "interferance engine". SO then how many miles have you driven your Honda Accord before you replaced your timing belt. 75k 100k 125k 150k 200k. I have a 1995 Honda Accord EX with 99k on it and intend to replace the belt and all the etc. water pump & belts shortly. BUT if these engines are going 150k 200k before belt failure I would like to know? It's all about "BALLS". The Honda is quality period. |

I once squeezed 95k out of the belt on a 1994 Accord LX. I was not beaten severely about the head by the service department afterward. |

They usually don't show any wear. You can't judge their remaining life expectancy by inspection (unless there is damage). Honda says change it on the '95 at 90,000. To not do so is not a measure of balls, its a measure of stupidity. I changed the one on the '96 Odyssey (same engine) at 91,000 and it was OK. I let it go to 110,000 on the old VW Rabbit and it snapped literally on the way to the dealer to trade it in. |

The recommended interval is 6 years or 90K miles. http://www.high-road.com/maintenance/maintenance.htm Don't forget to replace all of the front engine seals as well. Why would you risk it - especially in an interference engine? Change the
belt when recommended. You can do it yourself on a saturday. The change interval is intended to capture the belts that fail early based on statistics. Statistically, the life will vary around some mean life.
