Tires for 98 Prelude.. Toyo or Pirelli
I'm in the market for buying a new set of tires for my car and am undecided
between the Toyo Proxes 4 or the Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S. I've read the reviews and everything but decided on which brand is still up in the air.. Any comments ? Thanks. |
Re: Tires for 98 Prelude.. Toyo or Pirelli
I bought four PZero Nero M+S (stock 205/50R16) from Tirerack for my 99
Prelude 2,500 miles ago. All the writeups were very good (but only a few had more than a couple thousand miles on the road) and so far no major complaints. But three things to watch out for: 1. The advertised wet stopping traction rating is AA (the best), but the sidewalls were marked A. Pirelli USA (Georgia) confirmed that the earlier PZero Nero M&S were made in the US, but are now made in Germany (including mine date coded early 2004). They do not know if the tire is still qualified to receive the UTQG of AA since they do not know if it is simply a mold plate issue, or whether the factory actually changed the tire compound. Supposedly they will retest this line. 2. There are no "match mounting" dots on these Pirelli tires and the balance is going to take some more effort. The OEM Bridgestones (I know, some people hated the RE92, but I had good luck) were mounted with the red uniformity marks lined up with the blue dot on all four wheels. This gave essentially perfect balance with minimal added weights. I've been swapping these Pirelli tires fore and aft, had two rebalanced, and now will have at least one broken down and rotated 180 on the wheel. 3. Some people complain about tramlining on grooved pavement. So far, these tires have not been an issue driving on some "in work" resurfaced roads that had the top asphalt layer removed with the resulting grooving. Sorry.. but I will never buy Bridgestone tires again. The RE92's came stock
on this car and they were very bad.. Nearly killed myself cause of them...
