warranty info about trans. for a 98 accord
Does anybody know about the warranty on the transmission on the 98
accord? Someone recently told me Honda extended the warranty due to excessive problems people were experiencing. |

Is owner link for American Honda's only?I attempted to register and was told
I had an invalid VIN. I triple checked my numbers, but still to no avail.Maybe it is because I bought it second hand? I checked Honda.ca and there is no link there. "E. actually tried that one day.I had asked the dealer if they could tell me if
the timing belt had been replaced .I assumed that if it was done by a dealer, they would be able to tell me.They told me only if it was done by them.I believe she was incorrect about this.I still need to find that out.I heard that some mechanics write something, perhaps the date,in chalk or something,to let another person or mechanic when it was changed last. Re: warranty info about trans. for a 98 accord
Your original post was about warranty information which a Honda or Acura
dealer can provide, no matter where the car was bought. Honda, Mazda and Toyata dealers (I haven't contacted others) don't provide info about normal maintenance performed at other dealers and that info might not be available to them. However they can tell you when and at what mileage warranty service was performed, but not necessarily what was done. Re: warranty info about trans. for a 98 accord
98 Accords do not have an extension. Here is a copy of letter AHM sent to
owners of affected years. August 2003 Automatic Transmission Warranty Extension Dear Accord, Odyssey, and Prelude Owners: American Honda is announcing a warranty extension for the automatic transmission on all 1999-01 Odysseys, 2000-01 Accords, and 2000-01 Preludes. The automatic transmission and torque converter are now covered for a total of 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date of original sale. We are providing the warranty extension because a higher than normal number of automatic transmissions in certain vehicles may have problems due to defects in material or workmanship beyond the 3-year, 36,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty. Good luck! Re: warranty info about trans. for a 98 accord
The letter is true, but saying that, you still might be able to get
something from Honda. I have a '99 V6 Accord and had tranny problems. I had the Honda service manager drive my car and he immediately told me that my transmission was bad. Honda paid for my hardware (all new transmission) but I had to pay for the labor (~$570). This all occurred at ~68k miles in May '03. Being a '98, I wouldn't press Honda too hard as they really don't owe you anything, but worth asking. -keith tallahassee, fl "Howard" <Howardh@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:Fygfd.42992$mn5.30088@bignews5.bellsouth.net. .. > 98 Accords do not have an extension. After being quoated $2400 for a junkyard transmission or $3100 for a Honda rebuild. After complaining to the service mgr. that we have owned several Hondas with mileage on some passing 200k that we feel wrong paying $2400 on a repair on a vehicle that is only worth $7000 at best, he called Honda and is willing to replace the transmission for labor only ($500). They also threw in a loaner car while the repair is being done. |
