Windows tinting

My '03 Accord's (probably all Accords) windows have no tinting at all.
There's lots of sun where I'm in. A colleague had tinting applied to the
rear windows professionally. I think a film is applied to the inside. The
quality seems pretty good. I've also seen on the road many such treated
windows with air bubbles all over. I assume these people did the job
themselves. What's folks experience with this? Does having this done void
any warranty on the car, such as the rear window-defrost? Would this cause
the rear windshield to overhead when the defrost is turned on?

Re: Windows tinting

It does not void the warranty if it is applied correctly.

The embedded heating element still will work correctly.

There is a slight danger of damage to the heating elements in the back
window when it is applied (cut them when trimming the film) and an even
bigger danger if it ever has to be removed (rip them off). There is a trick
to it and you want to have it professionally done.

Usually the tinting is advertised with a lifetime warranty. Make sure you
get it in writing, because the films last five-seven years max. You will
have to go back if you keep the car any longer than that.

Ask your colleague to tell you the name of the company that applied the
tinting on his rear window and have that same company or person apply the
tinting to your window or windows. Another option is to check the yellow
pages of the local phone book for a local company that specializes in
window tinting of car windows.
