windshield wiper problem

I have a 94 accord, the wipers went out suddenly. I think its a mechanical
failure, but how can I be sure? How is it repaired?

I can switch the wipers on and hear the motor hum, but no action. Any help
would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: windshield wiper problem

Could just be that the wiper linkage (transmission) is stuck. If you're
inclined mechanically, take the wiper arms off the knurled knob at the
cowl. If they still don't rotate, you will have to take some of the trim
off at the heater intake that covers the linkage, or unbolt the wiper
motor from the firewall. Disconnect the motor from the linkage, then you
can then see what isn't working. bob

The electric motor has probably failed. I suggest that you visit a large
junk yard and buy a new motor. If they don't have one in stock--they
should be able to order one from another junk dealer on their computer
network. If you don't know how to remove the old one and replace it with
one that works--you should take it to a Honda Dealership and pay lots of
money to have them install a new motor. You might have a friend do it for
you.

Re: windshield wiper problem

Do you have the correct length of wiper blades installed?
I believe it should be 19" (driver) and 16" passenger.

How would that make a difference? Im curious, would the wrong size affect
the motor? I guess that makes sense, in a way.

Oh, thanks for all the input so far. Much appreciated.
