Would Highway driving affect a catalytic converter?

I just stopped at auto zone to have my check engine light code read.

He says its code 420 and it looks like I need a new cat.
He asked me if I drive the highway allot. Most of my travel is highway.
I've never heard that highway driving is bad for the cat???

Is he correct?

I'm going to look up the 420 code online now...

Oh yeh, 98 Accord coupe V6 auto 110,000 miles

Thanks

Steve

You mean P0420.

Highway driving does not damage the cat.

There are several causes of the P0420 error. The most common, and most
likely in your case, is simply a failing cat. Some models (not yours) had
problems with poor connections at the igniter, which the ECM misrecognized
as a failing cat. An exhaust leak after the primary O2 sensor is another
possible cause, as is a cracked exhaust manifold.

Honda has a TSB for your car for this specific problem (03-073). The
speicifed cure is cat replacement.
