03 xg350L
 

I was at a Hyundai dealer today with the intent to get a Sonata. After
a test drive, I mentioned that it was noisier and rougher than I thought
it would be.

He asked if I had considered a XG 350. He said they had an '03 XG 350L
with less than 12K miles on it for less than $18K.

I took it for a ride and it was pretty nice. He said it was a steal for
the price. I asked him if he knew the history of the car. he said no,
they had gotten it at an auction. I told him I'd think about it. He
told me to look at an 04 XG350L to see the sticker price on it. It was
around 26K.

Anyhow, I came home and did some research on Kelly and the price sure is
good. Is this too good to be true? I'm wondering why a dealer would
reduce the price so much.

Check it through CarFax for history... www.carfax.com , or ask the
dealer to do it for you for free.

Unfortunately Hyundai has low resale value. Check www.kbb.com and
www.edmunds.com for value of the car. Edmunds says about $18,00 is
average.

I bought a new '04 XG350L recently and love it!

I would never buy an 03 XG350 (used) with 12K miles on it for 18K, but
not for the reasons you think. I have an 02 XG350L (You did not say if
this one was an L or not and that adds a couple of thousand right
there) that I bought brand new with 8 miles on it for $20K. You should
be able to find a 03 Brand new and walk out the door for around $20K
(yes, this sticker is 26K, mine was $26,818). The reason being is that
the 04's have been out for a while so if you are looking at an 03, its
been there a while. Make them a deal! I did! (and I got high blue book
on a ford winstar tradein!!!).
By the way, I have had no problems in 23K miles. Nice car for the
money, very safe (look at the govnt crash tests, almost as as a
volvo!). The only complaints that I have (and everyone else has are
the following:
1. Too fast of acceleration (car lunges with minimal force on the gas)
2. Poor AM reception

If you can live with that, it is a fats, quite car at a great price.

Although I got completely taken by the dealer and spent WAY more than I
should have, I recently bought an 03 XG 350L and it's a wonderful car,
loaded with everything with a smooth ride and excellent handling (I am one
of the minority who happen to like the "torquey" accelerator). If the
Carfax research is ok like another poster rightfully recommended, I think
you'll be very happy with it. I've read other posts here that give some
indication that the hair trigger gas pedal can be adjusted if this is
annoying.

There is an ECU program update available that will fix some problems
with O2 sensors and the lunging problems.

Also, check your antenna wiring. Many Hyundai's sold in the last few
years had their antenna's wired incorrectly and that was causing poor
AM reception. In addition, you may also have a grounding problem. I
had some static on my car when listening to AM. Regrounding the
engine compartment took care of it.
