2000 Accent Clutch or Tranny problems. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

The last few weeks my 2000 Accent 5 spd has been kicking out of fourth
gear with no warning. It started with just fourth gear and progressed
to fifth gear. I would just have to keep my hand on the stick to kind
of "hold it into gear" when I was on the gas in fourth and fifth
gear. Now within the last two or three days I can’t even put it into
third gear becuase when I go to shift into third and let out the
clutch it kicks out and if I put it back in it just keeps on trying to
kick out. It does the same with 5th gear.

It just started making some really weird noice like it’s dragging
somethign but it only does it occassionally. Sometimes it doesn’t
even want to go into reverse and again, sometimes when I take my foot
off the clutch in reverse it kicks out.

Please don’t tell me that the tranny is bad --- I’ll die.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! --- Jenn

well i dont want you to die but if gearshift is jumping out of gear the
bearings in trans are bad and tranny needs internal work

It's also possibly a problem with the shifter cables or retainers. Have it
checked.

Re: 2000 Accent Clutch or Tranny problems. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

My wife's 2000 Accent had this same problem between 4th and 5th, would pop
out of gear. The dealership had heard of it before and said there was a
small "detent" missing in the original casing and replaced it. It was the
back 1/2 casing I think.
Anyway, that cured the problem and has never happened again. Ours was
done under warranty about 3 years ago but you may want to check.
Hyundaitech, have you ever heard of this? The tech that did the
installation said there were some from 2000 that slipped through and didn't
get caught at QA.

Re: 2000 Accent Clutch or Tranny problems. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I vaguely recall an Accent about 2000 model year I worked on which broke
something inside the trans. At this point I don't recall whether the
technical service bulletin addressed the specific problem or whether it
simply addressed the revised parts I'd need to use for repair. If I
recall correctly, there were revised parts to repair a design flaw issue
which led to an undesireable failure rate, but it's been long enough I
can't be sure of much at this point.
