2000 Sonata running lights off?

Is it possible to re-wire the headlight system so that with the switch
in the off position the running lights are off?

I.e. If my car is running, whether the switch is in the off, running
lights, or headlights on position the running lights are still on. I'd
like to just be able to sit there in the dark sometimes with the engine running.

How hard is this to do?

Sorry, that's not really the right description.

When the switch is in the off position the running lights are still on
though. I'd like to be able to turn them off.

I don't think that's legal in Canada. In the U.S., the running lamps are
off when the switch is off. You may be able to pull a relay or something
to accomplish your desire.
