2000 Sonata Window

The driver side window in my Sonata no longer closely completely
tight. Due to this malfunction I get wind noise from this window.
I will be taking it to the dealer within the next few days and try to
have it repaired under the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Has anyone else experience this problem?

There was a recall on 2000-2001 Sonatas on the power window regulator. I had
the same problem (mind you this recall was issued in Canada because we only
have a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty here). I have a 2001 Sonata and both
regulator's failed on the driver and passenger side window preventing them
from closing completely.

It's not a recall in the U.S., but there is a technical service bulletin on
this issue. You should expect your dealer will replace the upper cable
holder for the window regulator in question and possibly the one on the
other side as well.

I got it back from the dealer today. The service manager said they
replaced the entire regulator. Whatever, it works fine now. (covered
under the bumper-to-bumper)

He said that the cable cannot be replaced by itself, but is part of an
assembly.

Re: 2000 Sonata Window

What happens is that the roller assembly at the top of the regulator
cracks. If it breaks completely, the cable will come off and get tangled
up, and the window won't work. Hyundai introduced a service kit to
replace the roller assembly (they call it a holder) on the regulator.
Perhaps your dealer didn't know about the bulletin or they don't like
replacing the roller. Either way, you're probably better off with an
entirely new regulator.
