2002 accent oil usage

My 2002 Accent will use a quart of oil every 1400 miles. Has 76k on it and
has been doing this since about 30k.

Is this the norm?

Not for mine, 2002 Accent, 1.5 5 speed with 136,000 and it uses around a
quart between 4500 mile oil changes, I don't add it, just change it at that
point. I drive almost exclusively highway though, which usually is much
better on oil consumption than city driving.

It's certainly within the manufacturer's guidelines. I'd recommend
checking for leaks, and if you don't have any, don't sweat it. If it's
been running fine like this for 46,000 miles, then there's little reason
to believe it's a sign of a larger problem.

It isn't the norm, but it is within the tolerance that most car makers
accept as "normal." Generally, warranty repairs will only be authorized
when oil consumption exceeds 1 quart/1000 miles.

It could be considered a warrantied issue if the oil consumption causes
you to fail an emissions test, though. If its not dripping, its burning.

True, but catalytic convertors are pretty good an consuming hydrocarbons
so you'd have to be burning a LOT of oil to see it on an emissions test
I suspect.
