2003 Elantra - Rust on Wheel Drum
I was curious if any other Elantra owners have rust spots around their
wheel drums? In case I'm not descrbing it right, I'm talking about the area that is bewteen the rotor and the actual alloy rim. My 2003 has brown spots all around it and it just seems kind of odd for a car that new. I plan to ask the dealer about next time I'm in, but thought I'd try to get some info ahead of time. Thanks! |

Thanks! It's normal. I don't think I've ever had a car that didn't rust on the hubs. If it bothers you, you can clean it off and paint it, but it's nothing to be worried about. |
Re: 2003 Elantra - Rust on Wheel Drum
If you paint it, use high-heat temp paint but I would just leave it
alone. It won't hurt anything. On Sat, 25 Sep 2004 01:21:07 -0400, Tyler_Durden <jaybird@yahoo.com> wrote: >I was curious if any other Elantra owners have rust spots around their >wheel drums? Simple Rust-Oleum Aluminum paint did just fine on my car. I just modified the Garage Page article with pictures taken a few minuites ago. http://egt.gwebworks.com/garage.shtml -- Wayne Moses, 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT http://egt.gwebworks.com |

I have no intentions on painting my rotors but I recently used some high temp silver/aluminum color spray paint on the exhaust of a car of mine, even near the catylatic converter (that I had to replace because the bracket rusted through). It also appears to be holding up fine and hopefully will help protect the welded areas of the pipes that always rust first so I can prevent replacing various pieces of the exhaust on that car every few years. I got it at Lowes or Home Depot. As with any metal painting job, the cleaner and rust free it is, the longer the paint will last. You can paint over rust but it WILL not last. Not related but since we are talking about rust.. When replacing parts of your exhaust, pay the extra 2~3 dollars more for stainless steel nuts and bolts. Your knuckles and patience will thank your wallet many times over if you ever have to return to it later. |
