2003 Tiburon problems

Good day all. I just bought a 2003 Tiburon SE. Have had all sorts of
problems. IE....little thing like the release buttons to fold down the back
seats. The repeated sticking of the Moonroof. How easy the paint chips.
Not to mention the sensor problems. I was wondering if this is a trend with
these cars or do I just have rotten luck.

Hopefull....In NB

I4 or V6? Stick or auto?

Explain more fully, please.

http://newtiburon.com/index.php?page=faq has an item about the sunroof
sticking and what to do to correct it. I got my Tiburon sans sunroof
(why would I want a $1000 option designed for warm-weather operation in
a place like Michigan?) so no direct experience. The same FAQ states
that paint chipping should be covered by the normal warranty. FWIW,
I've only had minor problems with paint chipping and I've had my Tib
(2003 V6) for 5.5 months. YMMV.

Explain more fully, please. Posting a URL to a place where these
problems are described is fine.

The main problem I've heard about with the 2003 Tiburon is premature
clutch wear on manual-tranny models. Nothing else leapt out at me, but
I haven't had much time to browse Tib-specific sites like newtiburon.com
in the last few weeks.

I have had numerous problems with my sunroof since I bought it Feb
2002... I am now fighting with the dealer here to get the damn thing
fixed again and the only way I got it fixed the last time was calling
Hyundai and they contacted them and the District mgr of this area over
the mechanics dept came down.. Im gonna have to call them again.. I
love this car minus that problem... and the guy there said its a
problem with them all

No you are not the only one. I have a 2003 Tib that was bought at night .
The next day in the light of day you could see a couple of places where the
paint is blistering . The GREAT warranty isn't worth the rice paper it is
printed on. They claim bird crap left on the paint was the cause and that
isn't covered. Next car I purchase will put Americans to work.

There are a lot of lousy dealers out there -- for all brands. Try a
different dealer, or go over their head to Hyundai of America. If
worse comes to worst, you can take them to small claims court, but you
won't have to.

It's fine to stand up and salute the flag, but don't cut off your nose
to spite your face. Look at the American cars that compete in the same
market segment as the Tiburon and see how they measure up to the
imports. I wasn't looking for a Tiburon kind of car, but I certainly
was not impressed with American cars when I was shopping.

Same thing happened to me, Tiburon had bird crap that ate through the hood.
Fortunately, I bought the car during the day and they repainted the entire
thing for me. The salesman told me the the Hyundai's have very weak paint,
and the the "repaint" would be very helpful for me because they used a
stronger mix.

Re: 2003 Tiburon problems

Its most unfortunate that they make up such silly excuses, ive had bird
on my car once for over a week, and it did NOTHING to the paint.
That warranty for the paint is only ther as a selling point i think.
But go to any dealer, im sure youd get the same responce no matter what
make. Remember all the paint peeling problems the big 3 had in the 1990's,
but they denied people claims till they were blue in the face.
my brother in law was one of them, all the paint just peeled of down to the
primer on bottom half of his chevy truck.

The good news is, even if for some reason you have pay to have a
Hyundai repainted, you're still thousands ahead. ;)

I did get in touch with Hyundai and they stand behind what the dealer told
them. I also told them of a letter I got from the dealer telling me not to
fill out the survey but to bring it in for them to fill out and I would
receive two oil changes. That sound real cheesy.

Re: 2003 Tiburon problems

Hey Jerry GREAT news I didn't have to paint my brand new car. I went to a
different dealer, one who cares, and they said it was covered under warranty.
I just bought off a dealer who just cares about selling and not about repeat
customers.
