2004 Santa Fe Problem

I purchased a 2004 Santa Fe 2 weeks ago. It is the 2 wheel drive with the
2.7 liter engine, it is automatic (it has that "shiftronic" thing, but I
have not used that). It has a tendency to "jump" once the car is started,
put into drive, and I begin to move forward - only in that first minute of
driving, just a couple lurches, then smoothes out, and is fine. Until the
next time the car is turned off, then restarted and begun to drive again.
I had it in the shop for a week after my first 3 days of ownership. They
can't figure out what it is. They have changed the crank sensor twice, and
the air flow meter (?). I picked it up, thought everything was fixed, but
within 2 days it has begun again. They say they may try changing the spark
plugs.
My husband says he thinks it is some type of vapor lock. I feel like it
may be transmission.....it feels slightly similar to what a stick shift
does if you start to take your foot off the clutch when you are barely
rolling......all I know is I love the car but am very frustrated, having
only owned it 2 weeks.....anybody had this type problem, and if so what
was the resolution????
Thanks!
Karen

Without a Diagnostic Trouble Code to help them, it could be just about
anywhere and possibly as simple as one terminal not fully installed in an
electrical connector somewhere in the maze of wiring. Don't worry about
it so much. It will be a fine automobile once fixed.

I live in New Jersey and have the same problem with my new 2004 Santa Fe
that I purchased in early April. haven't had it into the shop as I
thought it was either my imagination, or something that happens with the
new Santa Fe's and would just "go away" in time. But now I'm starting to
wonder...

I put mine back in the shop yesterday. I will let you know if or when they
find something! Thanks for your responses!

Did you open a case with Hyundai? Sounds like the dealer didn't bother
with calling the tech line.

You can monitor the data stream with the scanner hooked up. Assuming
it is an electrical problem, some glitch will show up on the scope.

Re: 2004 Santa Fe Problem

Yes, and actually that is what took longest, their waiting for the tech
line to research and call them back. We are picking it up this evening,
they tell us the tech line said they felt it was the Transmission Control
Module.....so they changed that out Wednesday, and test drove it several
times yesterday and say it doesn't seem to be acting up anymore. We will
find out this weekend I guess!!

Re: 2004 Santa Fe Problem

Just to let you guys know, they changed the TCM, or transmission control
module. I picked it up Friday and it has been running smoothly ever
since......so hopefully my problem has been solved. Thanks for your
responses!

Re: 2004 Santa Fe Problem

Well, I spoke too soon. It began again about 1 week later. They tell us
now they are awaiting a computer software program from Hyundai to try to
"reprogram" the car. Have no idea. We will see what happens.......

I also have an 04 but with 4WD. Have had it to 2 different dealers a few
times and they won't even aknowledge that there is a problem. Mine has the
exact same symptoms as yours. I will just wait until it gets worse or
breaks.
