99 Elantra Problem

Hello All,

I have a problem with my sister's 99 Elantra that I may need
some help on. She is telling me that when she puts a current load on
the car (radio, A/C with head) that her lights are periodically going
out. She can then start the car and it won't go out again until she
turns the lights, radio etc on again. She is bringing the car back now
so that I can read the ODB code (She said the check engine light cam
on but is now off), but I'm thinking that the alternator is on the way
out. Anyone have any other ideas as to what it can be? The car has 73k
miles on it.

Thanks for your help in advance,

Nick

Followup on this issue..I took the ODB readout and it was saying a
P0562 "system voltage low". I google search suggests that it is a bad
battery?

Thanks,
Nick

Re: 99 Elantra Problem

I would take the battery to a local parts store..
they test them for free, and they are cheap and
easy to replace....

If the battery is more than three years old, that's a good bet. It could
also indicate a failing alternator. Have the alternator and the battery
checked.

Re: 99 Elantra Problem

The alternator is the more likely problem, but it's possible that a faulty
or nearly dead battery can inhibit the alternator's ability to keep the
proper voltage. Have them checked like the other posters suggest.
