car starts but wont go...

So my 2002 Elantra just stopped on me the other day, driving down the
road and went to put it in third, heard some nice grinding then
nothing, stalled. Now I can put the car in gear, but when I left off
the clutch, oh yes its a manual just incase you had not figured it
out, the car stalls out. Also when I put the car into neutral you
also cannot move the car. Pls Pls Pls help!!!!

It sounds like something major has broken in the transmission and jammed
it. Unless you've got really high mileage for the car's age, it should
be covered under warranty.

As I'm sure you suspect, it sounds a lot like your transmission is the
source of your difficulty. I'm afraid this is something beyond the
average shade tree mechanic's ability. Good luck.

It WOULD be covered under Warranty, but apparently because it has a
rebuilt title, it no longer falls under the Warranty piece. It didn’t
really seem that clear when I bought the car - and I can’t find any
documentation anywhere that says "if your car is rebuilt, then it
kills the warranty." I guess its just such common knowledge that it
doesn’t need to be written. So I’m thinking I’m paying for it to be
fixed. Yikes.

Does anyone know about the deal with the warranty? I did a Carfax
search and it says the Warranty is still valid. We’ve talked with the
guy who sold me the car, and he also questions the fact that Hyundai
is saying the Warranty is not valid. It wasn’t a salvage or a junk
car.. but parts of it were rebuilt (It wasn’t the engine that was
rebuilt - I think it was body work). I can’t really figure out how to
get a straight answer on it!

If you post or e-mail your vin# (include a subject line in the e-mail so
I'll know not to delete it with my other spam), I'll run it through
Hyundai to see what the warranty coverage is. Any car officially declared
salvaged is not warrantable. Hyundai is the official source. Carfax is
not.

I have a rebuilt Santa Fe...the dealer here in Redmond, WA said that
everything is covered unless they can identify something happening because
of the accident...mine was a rollover..hope that helps..Jim
