check engin light

I brought my car in April 2002 with a little over 11,000 miles on it.On
Aug 03 at 30965 miles the car felt like it was loosing power, like I were
driving in low gear. I took it to the dealership and thay could not find a
problem. I was asked did I want the 30,000 mile check up I said no.In
Sept,03,at 33628 miles I went back to the dealership with the same problem
but the check engin light was on. I was told a shorted pulse generator
assembely was replaced and I declined the service again. Aug 04 I was back
again with the same problem and I was told I needed a new trans, but
because I did not take the service at 30,000 miles my 100,000 mile
warrantie was no good. I do not understand what changing the fluid has to
do with making the trans go bad. I had the person who changes my oil and
pull other matance on the car state that I had plenty of fluid in and it
was clean with an odor. I fell I was sold a lemon what can I do?

Well....to keep the warranty good, do the scheduled maintenance. When
you declined the scheduled maintenance, they should have told you that
your warranty would be voided.

Re: check engin light

Similar to motor oil, transmission fluid gets dirty, accumulates particles,
and degrades as it is used. This is why the maintenance is recommended.

As you indicate you purchased this car used, you probably have no "lemon"
recourse. And, since you are not the original owner, you do not have the
10/100 powertrain warranty, you have the 5/60 bumper to bumper warranty
only unless you purchased an additional warranty. Keep in mind that the
transmission is still covered against defect for the 5/60 period.

Check your owner's manual and see what the maintenance requirements are
for your car. I checked the 2004 Accent, and the transmission fluid is
required to be changed every 30k only under severe usage conditions. I
would think that the manufacturer would need evidence you were subjecting
the car to their severe usage conditions to require you to have serviced
the transmission.

Just a clarification on your comments- specifically stating that the the
10/100K "Powertrain" warranty somehow is "absorbed" into the 5/60K
"Bumper-to-Bumper" warranty aspects. Have reviewed any/all Hyundai Warranty
aspects covering resale (3rd party, non-family), and offer the following
points:

1) On resale the 10/100K "Powertrain" warranty is adjusted to 5/60K
"Powertrain" period
- only adjustment is reduction of warranty period, not classification
(still remains "powertrain")..
- all things covered by "powertrain" remain, NOT reduced to just
transmission..

2) Only linkage to "bumper-to-bumper", is that "powertrain" is reduced to an
identical time/usage threshold
- warranties are still distinct

3) Your comment that "..you have the 5/60K warranty ONLY..", does NOT seem
to align with Hyundai's warranty specs..

The differences may just be my garbled way of thinking about things. I
always just viewed bumper to bumper as including powertrain. Anyway, I
think you're probably right here for a number of reasons. The important
part is that the powertrain is still warrantable for the second and
subsequent users but only for the 5/60 period.
