CHECK ENGINE LIGHT - MAFS

The check engine light came on on our 2000 Accent GS. I brought the car in
the local Hyundai dealer and they told me that the Mass Air Flow sensor is
defective and needed to be change. $440 (CDN) + labour, YIKES!!!!!

I told to forget it for now.

Suggestion anyone?

Re: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT - MAFS

You should be able to put the MAFS in by yourself. It's likely just inline
in the air intake hose, a couple clips, an electrical plug or two, and
you're done. 15 minutes tops.

It could have just been a one time error. If your MAFS truly goes bad your
car will run poorly, get poor gas mileage, run hot, cold, etc. If the car
runs fine it was likely a one time error.

Re: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT - MAFS

Hi,

Just curious... shouldn't this be taken care of under the Hyundai
warranty? Or is the warranty in Canada different than in the U.S.?

If the MAF is included in the terms below, and he bought the
Accent over 36 months ago, his warranty may be over, eh? =;-(

Re: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT - MAFS

In the U.S (California to be exact), the car is covered by two
warranties. 1 the 8 year 80,000 miles Federal warrty and the 7 year
70,000 mile California warranty (Emissions).

Good Luck..
