Dashboard light problem 1998 Elantra
Would there be a fuse causing this? Can't seem to find the fuse.
The light for the dash (speedometer, tach) won't come on, also my fog lights won't come on. The switch beside the rear window fogger for the fog lights doesn't turn green when depressed and the lights won't come on. and I'm sure this is connected somehow, but the dimmer switch for the dash doesn't affect the radio light anymore. The radio light stays bright. What was happening a few weeks before was when I turned on the car, the lights wouldn't come on for a while, then after 2-5 minutes all would be all right. The blue light for the brights work though. Kind of frustrating. Thanks -- Remove NOSPAM to reply |

Do your outside tail lamps work? If one side is out, check the appropriate
tail lamp fuse. If that's okay, check the rheostat (dimmer switch). |
Re: Dashboard light problem 1998 Elantra
Thank you very much.
It pays to have an extra set of eyes. I have no tail lights. I opened up the fuse box under the hood and there is a black one (right) with 4 prongs. The middle prong is all brown and a bit burnt. I guess that's it. question..would any auto shop have that type of fuse or do I have to get one from a Hyundai dealership? Thanks again. Re: Dashboard light problem 1998 Elantra
It sounds like you've found a relay. The fuses are the translucent plastic
red, yellow, and blue things. Check there first. But if you have just pulled a tail lamp relay, you may have found the problem. There should be a diagram inside the fuse box lid telling you which item is for which purpose. Also, if the relay being burnt is the issue, you may need to do some electrical repairs to the fuse box -- the terminal may no longer make proper electrical contact with the relay. |
