Drive cycle for OBD II Trouble Code test
 

This continues the prior thread "Innova Code Reader first try"
regarding downloading stored codes with the Innova/Equus 3100
code reader.

Vehicle: 2000 Sonata 6 cyl.

The car's computer is reporting back on all systems except two:
catalytic converter and oxygen sensor. The code reader displays
blinking icons "C" and "O", which mean that the monitors have not
been run or completed.

I called the code reader's manufacturer this morning. The tech
said that the car's computer won't give a complete result if the
car has not been put through the appropriate drive cycle. He
referred me to the Hyundai shop manual for a description of the
drive cycle. I can't find anything about a drive cycle on the
Hyundai tech web site. When I told Innova's technician that
Hyundai posts the complete shop manual on their web site, his
reply was, "If the drive cycle isn't in the manual, it's not a
complete manual."

I need to know the drive cycle sequence for each of these
monitors for my car. Where can I find this information?

This brings up another question: if the manual on the web isn't
complete, will I get a better manual if I buy the printed version
from the dealership? I assume that this is the same book that's
marketed by Helm -- is this correct? (Actually, two books,
including the electricals).

What you see on the website is what's in the manual. The drive cycle isn't
in the hard copy of the shop manual, either. There was a period of time
when it was important for Hyundai America to find out info about the drive
cycle, so they did their own digging. But Korea wouldn't tell them. They
had to find it out for themselves. To my knowledge, there is no published
drive cycle for your vehicle. The report I hear is that Korea wants to
keep this quiet for proprietary reasons.
