EPA updates mpg ratings

Its about time, the EPA has updated the "model" it uses co compute Fuel
Economy.

If I look up my 2006 Sonata V6

http://tinyurl.com/2avqfk

When I bought it The EPA said

20 City, 24 Combined, 30 Hwy

The EPA revised it to

18 City, 21 Combined, 27 Hwy

Which actually pretty darned close to what I am getting!

They don't comment on ratings with ethanol blends, around me we have 10%
ethanol which has less energy per gal than pure gasoline.

I just checked my 06 4 cylinder, 5 speed and it now lists

21/25/31 rather than
24/28/34 as before.

I'm actually getting much better than the combined, but have only
achieved the highway figure a couple of times. I've averaged almost
exactly 29.5 for the 18,000 miles I've owned the car. Interesting, the
site lists one "individual" result and that was also 29.5, but I'm not
sure how they obtained this result. I'd say the new figures are pretty
close and maybe even just a bit conservative.

I think the highest tank I recorded was 32, and have been above 30 just
a few times.

Wow, they are pretty reasonable for a change. I've gotten 27.5 highway. I
get about 23 - 23.5 consistently, but that is with my normal driving leaning
to the highway side of the combined.
