Grinding drivers window, 2002 Sonata
Hi,
My 2002 Sonata has developed a grinding noise in the drivers door window as it is raised or lowered. Sounds like grit or maybe needs oiling. Looked at Webtech site, looks tricky to get to the window. Any hints or advice, before I start taking the door apart? Regards, Bryan Skelton. |

Does it raise and lower properly, including closing fully? There's a TSB
about regulator issues caused by cracking of the regulator upper holder. Many times people notice their window doesn't quite close fully. It sounds to me like the regulator may be beginning to die. If you wish to take the door apart, remove the plastic triangular trim and remove the phillips screws holding on the door panel. Expect about three to be under a little plastic round cover about the diameter of a pencil. If I recall correctly, there's two on the back of the door (under cover), two on the front of the door, two at the bottom of the door, and one near the pull handle (under cover). You'll also need to pry off the small square cover behind the door handle to get the trim screw off. Once you've pulled the handle and trianguler trim off removed the panel screws, you should be ready to remove the panel. Just pull at the bottom and it should unsnap the rest of the way. You'll need to lift it out of the window slot. Be careful as you're unplugging things. The last time I pulled one of these apart, I allowed the weight of the panel to pull on the trunk/fuel door switch wiring and it pulled the trunk release switch apart. I was going to put it back together, but I couldn't find all the parts as they scattered. Also, consider taking it to the dealer. Unless you've got more than 60k on the car, anything other than lubrication/adjustment should be covered by your warranty. If you take it in after you've pulled it apart, the dealer will probably want to know why it was taken apart. |
Re: Grinding drivers window, 2002 Sonata
My 2000 has done that several times (3 or 4). In my case it was right before
the window motors disintegrated. I had to get the motors replaced, and if you look at the CONSUMERS REPORT magazine under power equipment for my model year, it rates power equipment as the worst. I am not sure if this is the problem with your model, but I know that sound too well. Steve Chynna22@aol.com |
