H200: Oilchange every 7.500 Km?

Is this a must or a clever way to keep the mechanics busy?

I go for factory required maintenance every 6000km here in Canada. Oil's
cheap.....engines aren't.

What's an H200? Hyundai cars currently available in the USA include
Accent (econobox), Elantra (sedan), Sonata (slightly nicer sedan), XG350
(luxury car), Santa Fe (midsize SUV), and Tiburon/Tuscani (poor man's
sports car).

Anyway, the guys on Car Talk at http://www.cartalk.com/ have said in the
past that it's OK to change the oil every 5000 miles on modern cars
instead of every 3000 miles. I change the oil every 3000 miles 'cause I
want to make sure the engine on my Tiburon lasts for at least 5 years.
You can do what you like, but if you intend to keep your H200 for a long
time, I'd suggest changing the oil *at least* every 4500 miles. The
engine is less likely to die or develop expensive problems if it gets
clean oil at regular intervals. YMMV, HTH.

The oil change interval recommendation for US-spec Hyundais is 7,500
MILES. The myth of the 3000 mile oil change refuses to die, despite the
fact that there probably isn't a single car manufacturer recommending it
anymore. The people recommending such short intervals are the OIL
companies. They have a vested interest in you throwing out good oil and
replacing it as often as they can convince you to do so.

If you think about it, what possible advantage would there be for a car
company to recommend exteneded oil change intervals if there was any
chance it would be harmful? Especially in the case of Hyundai with the
100,000 mile warranty, it would be suicidal. The car companies KNOW what
is necessary for their engines. The oil companies only know what is
necessary to pad their bottom lines.

So very, very true. Not only that, but it is a MAJOR waste of natural
resourses, as well as cash from our pockets. I usually go between 5
and 6 K between changes, and while I have had other car problems, I
have never had an engine go bad. And this goes back to all my cars,
from 1978.
