Help buy car for 19 yr old college student?

My 19 yr old nephew will be off to first year of college next fall.

He desperately needs reliable and economical transportation as he will
be in college abt 4 hrs away.

What vehicle.... model and brand....would be a good bet for him to
buy? We are thinking brand new vs used....so that he will have a
warranty and can fully concentrate on his studies at school (he wants
to become dentist) ... and not have to worry abt a used car and
breakdowns. But we are on a budget.

he has worked hard and has a good savings.... plus his family (uncles,
parents) will help him with cost a new car as well.

We need something that will help keep his insurance costs low as he is
in that high risk "bracket" at his age level.

Advice?

Thanks in advance!

We bought the Elantra GLS in 2001 for my older daughter, and the Elantra
5-door GT in 2003 for my younger daughter...both new for the exceptional
warranties.

I bought a 2004 XG350 a few months ago.

All have been excellent.

I suggest he check out the Elantra GT!

OK

Well I don't know much abt the Korean cars other than they have longer
warranties than the Japanese models. Isn't that true?

I HIGHLY recommend the Elantra GT Hatch. The warranty is 10/100 Power
Train, and 5/60 bumper-to-bumper. I purchased the extended warranty to make
it 10/100 B-2-B, plus the moon-roof option AND gap insurance (I had only a
small trade-in) all for $14k (<$300/Month payment)

The Elantra is reliable, sporty, well equipped, economical (28mpg average,
with 30+ on highway) and more exclusive than your generic looking Civic and
Corollas.

Buy one, before everyone else does and the price goes up!

I bought an 03 Hyundai Accent for my 80 mile daily commute to work. I
now have 9k miles on it. Have had not one problem nor complaint about
this L'il guy. It has a 1.6 DOHC (peppy) engine with a 5 speed (35mpg).
It's Gr8t to drive and very comfortable. I getting AC put into it
<dealer install> today. I also replaced the factory stereo with a CD
player.
I like this L'il Accent and can think of nothing better to replace it
with for the $$...
I'm quite happy with this car and would not hesitate to buy one for my
son/daughter/niece and/or nephew....
