How to paint rear drums on 2001 Accent?

The rear drums on my 2001 looks rusty. I plan to remove the wheel,
lightly sand off the rust from the rear drums and paint them with some
grey or black paint. Any suggestions?

You might try a hi-temp paint but be sure and spray the
drum away from the car! ( Don't ask me how I know this. ) =;-)

You should expect that the paint will come off shortly. They are painted
new and the heat causes the paint to come off.

My 2004 Santa Fe has rust too. Is that normal? When I first saw it, I was
upset. It doesn't seem right for a 6 month old vehicle to have rust on it.

It's normal for the brake drums to rust on ANY vehicle, since they're
cast iron. The front rotors are also cast iron and will rust in a
heartbeat if the car is not driven regularly to keep them clean.
Flywheels and pressure plates on manual transmission cars are also
subject to rusting if they're allowed to sit unused for any length of time.

You can clean up the drums and use a high heat paint on them (stove
paint or header paint), but it will reduce their ability to dissipate
heat and there's no guarantee that it will stay on.

I have always paint my drums using regular Tremclad (black or silver). I
never had any problem with drums but always has problem with front rotors.
Rear drum if you paint on a clean surface (a bit of rust is okay), it should
last easily 1 to 2 years depend how you take car of your car. Rear drums
don't normally get too hot.

There is a new product out from Duplicolor paint specifically made for
calipers. Comes in red, black yellow and maybe other colors. IT should hole
up pretty well to the high heat. The Front Rotors should generate much more
heat than the rear drums so I would give that a try. Most auto parts stores
should have it.
