How to repair scratches in plastic.

G'day

My 2007 Tucson has a few scratches in the plastic lining on the sides of
the luggage compartment. I tried Armourall spray on but that didn't help.

Any suggestions as I want to clean it up for trade-in on a new Tucson.

If you have scratches in the plastic there is little you can really do
other than simply clean them up. The plastic trim pieces are usually
textured and you really don't have any simple method available to you to
restore the texturing. Even if you did blend the scraches down with
abrasives, you couldn't easily match the texture of the panel and it would
end up looking worse. If they are bad scratches you can always get a panel
from the salvage yard and replace the panel. If it's the wrong color, you
can easily paint it with the proper color paint.

The truth is that those scratches won't make a darn bit of difference on
what they decide to give you for your car. Don't worry about them.

G'day and thanks for the reply.

That is what I thought. Might try a bit of grey shoe polish before I
trade it in. None of the scratches are serious.

Thanks

You are right there. Last new cars I have bought the company didnt even look
at my trade in. The tyres could have been bald, engine blowing smoke.
Lookeed at it from across the road, that was it.

Yep, same thing happened to me the last two times. I guess they just figure
the car's going to the wholesale auction and that's the price they work
from. Then it's all 'salesmanship' after that.
