Hyundai Accents any good 2000+ models?????
Husband wants a newish car. we've been looking at a couple of Hyundai
Accents 1.3i, 2000 plus ones - new shape. Any thoughts on their reliability, value etc. need to cart around 3-4 teenagers at times so leg room in the back is important as well as getting in/out. Seen a 3 door one and a 5 door one. Any thoughts appreciated. |

The Accent is Hyundai's econobox, so you will be able to get a used one for a low price. Perceived value in terms of $ is currently low, possibly because the marketplace hasn't yet grokked that Hyundai manufacturing quality got a lot better sometime near 1999/2000. Accent reliability may be high, or not--I don't know for sure; I own a Tiburon that's been very reliable for the last 1.7 years. The back seat of an Accent isn't that large, but a 6' 165lb. person can get in and out easily. There isn't much legroom in the back seat, but there's more legroom than there is in a Tiburon. The Accent is definitely a 4-seater, not a 5-seater. -- Matt G|There is no Darkness in eternity/But only Light too dim for us to see Hire me! http://crow202.dyndns.org/~mhgraham/resume/ You have me mixed up with more creative ways of being stupid. --MegaHAL |

You will find the accent to have minimal leg room for taller teenagers.
I would check into the elantra. |

I have an '03 Accent and love it. I don't think the 1.3l engine was ever sold here in the states, so I can't comment on that. Mine has a 1.6l. It is not a car for more than 2 people on a regular basis. You can carry a couple of people in the back, but not on a long trip. |

2003 Accent with 4K on it is a great little car. Equipped with A/C, PW, PL,
R/D, CD stereo, and more. Fun to drive, easy to park, fuel miser, well made, etc. I love this car! |

FWIW. I have a 1996 Accent with 188,600 miles on it. Very satisfied and
hoping to take it to at least 250,000 miles. It has been extremely reliable and the 40 mpg consistently has given me great satisfaction. many thanks. am looking at a 3yr 3 month old one with 9,000 miles on the
clock, only 1.3i 3 door and basic but hey, it's only £2800 and will do me nicely for commuting for the next zillion years I hope. I've done all the servicing myself to the schedule and the problems i've had are a broken windscreen the 2nd time i drove it. Broken about 6 more times in the next year before i replaced it (driving on narrow roads with road trains is rather hazardous to windscreens). 2 punctured tyres plus 2 others worn out after only 31,000km. Due mainly to driving at too high a speed. Battery replaced after 3 years. Due in a large part to my usage. The car often sits for a few days without being driven and on a couple of occasions i'd not closed the hatch properly and the inside lamp had drained the battery. That can be rather terminal for a car battery. That's about it for problems in the 70,000km that i've driven it, it still doesn't have any rattles and it's actually a pretty comfortable long distance vehicle although living in Britain you're hardly likely to come across long distances. 3 doors is lousy for carrying passengers but if you're driving don't worry too much, it's the others who are inconvenienced and hopefully they'll either walk or ask somebody else.
