Hyundai Quality When Did it Improve?
I'm looking to buy a '05, '06 Elantra or depending on price a '07 Elantra.
Is the warranty transferable? Which year did build quality start to impove with Hyuundai cars? Do they have non metallic timing belts? If so, what is the schedule to replace it? What other maintenance items are very expensive? What do I need to bee aware of when buying a used Elantra? How can I find out what a dealer pays for a '08 Elantra w/o alloy wheels and sunroof? Tom |

You can find details on the www.Hyundaiusa.com web page. Click the warranty link at the bottom Timing belts are to be replaced every 60,000 miles. Most Elantras have them, but I'm not sure about the new engines |

Re: Hyundai Quality When Did it Improve?
Timing belt replacement will cost differently depending on the area of the
country you live in. Generally high cost urban will be more, rural areas less. About 400 USD plus-minus $100. That's about the norm for most brand cars. Figure about $350 to $450 plus the cost of the pump if you go that route. I'm not sure I'd do it at 60k, but surely would at 120k. |

What about the CV joints? When do they get replaced? |

Just this weekend I carelessly backed into a big truck with my Elantra, the tail light assembly is now going to cost me about $100 on DIY basis, lots more at the dealer. |
Re: Hyundai Quality When Did it Improve?
I believe the timing belt interval on '07 and newer Elantras is 105k or so,
rather than the 60k on previous models. -- Message posted using http://www.talkaboutautos.com/group/alt.autos.hyundai/ More information at http://www.talkaboutautos.com/faq.html |

Hyundai's quality has been ramping up, and took a big jump in the 06 and later model years. - Bob |
