How much did you pay for your Elantra and when? Which accessory
packages did you get (wood grain, ABS, moon roof, auto or manual,
upgraded radio and tires?)

My OTD price on Monday this week was just over $14k (USD) which is a good
$2k below the best OTD price for my area (Northern Virginia) and included
the moon-roof option, bumper-to-bumper 10/100 warranty and GAP insurance. I
had a friend with me who used to work at that dealer so managed to get a
great deal. I know for a fact that the dealer made no money on the sale.

I'd have preferred to have the manual transmission, but one of the drivers
has to have auto. Shame that a semi-auto box like in the Mini Cooper isn't
available. I also wanted ABS, but all the dealers I spoke with said it
wasn't available yet. I suspect in another 6 months ABS-equipped cars will
roll off the ferry, but I needed a replacement car now.

If you haven't read up on the GT yet, check this out:

Congratuations on the new car! I can't find it now, maybe I saw it on
Edmunds, but I know that there was one Accessory Package available (with
the woodgrain and other goodies) that included ABS, because that would
be important to me.

I paid $14000.00 Drive out. I bought a 2002 GT on December of 2002. I have
the manual transmission. I like to drive manuals. Not having a manual was
one of my big beefs with the Infinity. I did not get any options as the GT
already comes with power everything and the sunroof/moonroof and leather
interior. I am impressed with the stock radio and speakers. The only
option would be the Traction Control and the Anti-lock brakes.
In my opinion, a car this light does not need Traction Control or Anti-lock
brakes. Also, the car comes stock with 4 wheel disc brakes. For me getting
in and out of the car is no problem. As far as your mother goes, I would
take the earlier suggestions and have her try to get in and out. Any other
questions feel free to ask. I forgot to mention the car comes with Tilt and
Cruise and has side impact air bags standard.

An FYI - I don't know if ABS is now standard on a Sonata - I don't believe
it was when I was looking in 2002. So after factoring in the cost of ABS and
comparable options, the price difference between the XG350 and a Sonata
didn't seem that great.

I think it was Neil who was told the Elantra GT doesn't offer ABS yet.
I found the option you're referring to above on the Edmunds site last
night and posted it on this board. Neil - if you read this, what, if
anything, do you plan to do? You made a purchasing decision based on
inaccurate information from the salesman. It must be an awkward
situation since you had a friend or family connection to get you a good
price.

ABS is indeed an option in package 8 with the traction control system shown
on both Edmunds and the Hyundai website. I believe that the first batch of
2004 GT models shipped to the US were not equipped with ABS, or at least
that the current batch of GTs at the dealerships in [at least] this area do
not have ABS.

I would be very interested to hear from anyone in the Northern VA or DC
Metro Area that purchsed a GT within the last 2 weeks with ABS.

I was in need of a car right now, so despite the fact that my previous car
had
ABS, and my desire to have it again, I purchased the GT without.

Assuming there is not a batch of ABS-equipped GT cars sat right now on the
dock at Baltimore, I don't believe I was given inaccurate information. I
wasn't told that ABS wasn't available at all, just that it wasn't available
in the currently held inventory.

Right now after just under a week of ownership, I'm very happy with the
purchase. I wanted ABS for the peace of mind, but had I had to choose
between my 10/100 warranty or ABS and say a lesser warranty, I would have
still chosen to go without ABS.

The one other thing I do have to say and this is related to your concern
over having to drive with *just* a 4-cylinder compared to a 6-cylinder, is;
don't be fooled into thinking that bigger is always better. Drive the
Elantra w/ 4-cyl, and drive the Sonata w/ both 4 and 6-cyl. I think for too
long has this country had an unfair prejudice against 4-cylinder engines,
just as it has had against hatch-backs.

Good luck with your car purchase Robin!

Neil.

See my post to Jason, I'm being won over.

Yep, plan to drive Sonata 6 (autom) and Elantra (autom) next week, must
stay strong to not test drive manual Elantra GT or Sonata.
