noise from gas tank
When shifting (manual) clicking sound come from under the car. When
knock to gas tank sound come as fuel pump hitting the bottom, or foreign object is inside. Does anybody have this weird sound when knock to gas tank? |
Re: noise from gas tank
Possibly a baffle came loose inside the tank. I saw this on an '01
elantra, I think. |

Re: noise from gas tank
To repair properly, you'd need to replace the gas tank if a baffle has
broken loose. It's possible, however, if the piece is small enough, to pull it out the fuel pump opening in the top of the tank. There's an access cover for the fuel pump under the rear seat. |

It appear from the sound that one site is loose and other is still intack creating resonanting/vibrating sound when bang to it. |
Re: noise from gas tank
I'd not even thought about the sparking issue. I suppose it's possible but
very unlikely. Probably the largest issue would be getting caught on your float and causing an incorrect fuel reading. |

The vapor in the tank is way, way below the explosive limit. That's why electric fuel senders (and pumps) can be put in the tank with no worries. Speedy Jim http://www.nls.net/mp/volks/ |

As I mentioned from sound of it, it is more like musical instrument resonating - as you suggested one site from baffle is loose, making metal-to-metal vibrating sound when rapid vehicle change. I will therefore wait for next wormer day and try to fish it out through fuel pump opening. (or break of mentioned baffle) If unsuccessful, I will leave situations to observe further. Gas tank replacement seems premature at this point. Thanks again all. |
