Power antenna on 2005 Sonata GLS
 

The power antenna on my 2005 Sonata GLS is stuck in a halfway extended
position. Turning the radio on/off does not result in any movement or
sound from the motor that extends/retracts the antenna.

My first thought was to check connections etc. I looked at hmaservice.com,
but I could not find diagrams. I would appreciate some pointers as to
where to look because the car is parked outside and it is too cold for me
to enjoy trying to figure out where to look by guessing alone ;-)

Well at least you can listen to half the channels still.

This probably won't help on its own. But this is something I have seen a
lot through the years.

If the antenna is bent even by about 1 degree (something you would not be
able to see) it will not function in the cold.

If that is the case, easiest thing to do is to disconnect the electric
function (not the signal connection into the radio), and just run it manual
until it gets warm again.

Once warm, you will know whether it will work well, so-so, or just plain
need replaced.

Wow, a power antenna that stopped working? Never heard of such a thing.

Truth is, I don't know of many that last three years. See if you can pull
it out all the way and just leave it. They tend to be a PITA to fix and
expensive to replace. Most likely the motor is junk, but it may be worth
checking for power to it anyway.

Thank you, Tom. If the antenna is bent, I am assuming the motor would
still kick in, but fail to retract/extend it. I hear no sound, so I am
assuming either the motor is gone or it is not getting power.

The only reason I want to fix it is to be able to go to the car wash
again. I am too lazy to wash the car myself.

I'll see what happens when the temperature goes above freezing again.
