Purchase of a Sonata - Did we get a good deal?
We just purchased a 2004 Sonata from Dennis Hyundai in Columbus, OH. This
is the base model, 4cyl Automatic. The sticker was $17,400. After several times back and forth between the sales rep and the manager, and finally showing them the Edmunds.com printout I had that showed $16,208 as the "true market value", we ended up with a purchase price of $15,732. After taking off $2000 for rebates and $1000 for Hyundai customer loyalty (we have a Santa Fe), we were looking at $12,732 + tax & title, ($13,815, total). Does this sound like as good of a deal as I think it is? I guess I don't trust my reading of the papers; I figure if they went that far below the sticker, they're making it up somewhere. We didn't have a trade in, and didn't buy any of the extra stuff (insurance, etc.) the dealer offered, so if they did make it up somewhere else, I can't figure out where. Any comments would be appreciated. Mike O. |

If you hit the www.edmunds.com price, then subtracted the rebates, you did
fine. "Mike O." <msodonnell@that-smile.com> wrote in message news:10ag98ds7l9j67e@corp.supernews.com... > We just purchased a 2004 Sonata from Dennis Hyundai in Columbus, OH. After I showed them the Edmunds sheet, they came back with about $500 below.
THEN subtracted the $3000 in rebates off of that. This is the first time I've purchased a car using this kind of info, I'm just suprised it seemed to work so well. - Mike O. I bought a new, base model 2004 Sonata on April24th of this year. The
MSRP was $17,500 with automatic transmission, a cargo net and front mud guards. After the $3,000 in rebates and $1,300 dealer discount was deducted the purchase price came to $13,200. I had to pay 6% sales tax plus $125 in license and clerical fees for a driveaway price of $14,117.
